Messages are in-app conversations between BreedMap users. Friends and contacts reach your Inbox; everyone else lands in the Other mailbox.
Before you start #
Be signed in on an adult account. Kid accounts have no messages; a message sent to a kid goes to the kid's guardians instead (shown as "To the guardians of <name>").
Open Messages #
Open the User info menu (your picture) and press Messages. The badge shows how many are unread. The sections are Inbox, Other mailbox, People, Messages settings and Notifications. Tap a conversation to open it.
Write a new message #
- Press the round + button at the bottom right (or New message in the help hub).
- In To, type an ID, @handle, name or exact email. Your Friends and Contacts are suggested first; press Search to look beyond them. Public people, your friends and people who added you as a contact can be found; an email address must be exact.
- Pick the person, type your message and press Send.
Offline, a message waits and is sent when the app is online again.
In a conversation #
- The link button (Link an item or project) adds a link to one of your items or projects. The reader sees the item only if they already have access to it.
- Delete under your own message removes it from your side. Also delete for <name> removes it from theirs too.
- Block and Report are in the conversation. See Friends, contacts and limits.
Inbox and Other mailbox #
- Friends and contacts reach your Inbox, with alerts and push.
- Everyone else lands in the Other mailbox: no alerts, no push. Those messages are deleted after 12 months.
Messages settings #
- Who can write to my Inbox: Known people (friends and contacts) or Anyone (every registered person).
- What a push shows: Generic, Sender name or Full preview.
Messages from BreedMap #
Contact the BreedMap team sends a support request from Messages settings; up to 3 a day. Answers arrive in Messages and cannot be replied to there. An account an admin has stopped from sending can still read its messages and contact the team.
