Everything you change is saved on this device at once. You can add projects and items, edit values, add photos and care log entries offline; they are sent with the next sync. Nothing is lost if a sync fails.
The Sync button #
The Sync button is at the top of the screen, next to the sections. The dot on it tells the state:
- green: all synced
- amber: changes waiting to be sent
- red: the last sync failed. Press Sync to retry.
A sync first sends your waiting changes, then downloads what changed on the server. The first sync downloads everything.
Automatic or manual #
Automatic sync is on by default. It syncs by itself when you are online and when you open the app, and checks every few minutes. In Manual mode the app syncs only when you press Sync.
Switch between them in the Sync options menu (the small ▾ next to Sync), or with the Automatic sync switch in the Settings menu (gear icon).
The Sync options menu also has five switches, saved on this device: Load photos, Taxonomy search, Search Public/People, Send changes at once and Follow right away. Choosing Automatic turns all five on; Manual turns all five off. You can then set each one as you like.
Conflicts #
If the same field was changed on this device and on the server, the Conflicts button turns amber. Open it and choose for each conflict Keep mine (your value is sent to the server) or Keep server.
What needs a connection #
- Publishing and retracting items, and everything in Public, including the family tree of public items.
- Changing a photo's shared details and covers (adding photos works offline).
- Care reminders and the Care agenda.
- Adding or removing the demo project.
- Linking someone else's item.
- The species search beyond names already saved on this device.
- The help assistant.
Check-out #
While an item is checked out on one device, nobody else can edit it until it is checked in. On the item page: More ▾ > Check out; Check in ends it. A checked-out item must be checked in before it can be published.
Pending changes and a fresh download #
Open the Settings page (Settings menu > All settings… > Account, pending changes, about…). Pending lists the changes waiting to be sent. Download everything again re-downloads your data from the server.
In the browser #
In the browser your data is kept in memory while the app is open, and an encrypted copy is saved in the browser's storage a few seconds after each change. If BreedMap is open in two tabs, each tab keeps its own copy.
