A linked device is anything that talks to BreedMap with its own token: a home automation system (the app shows a Home Assistant example), a sensor hub or an automatic watering system. BreedMap never connects into your home network; the device calls BreedMap.
What is live and what is coming later #
Live now: adding devices, device tokens, choosing which care entries a device may see and tick, sensor readings on the item page, and webhooks for due care tasks.
Coming later: item handover (passing an item to a new owner). Rows marked "Coming later" in My account are not available yet.
Before you start #
- Premium or higher (in a company workspace, that workspace's own plan). Kid accounts cannot link devices.
- Be signed in and online.
- Have at least one care reminder the device should work with; see Care reminders.
Add a device #
- Open My account > Connected apps.
- Press + Add device. Give it a Name and tick what it may do: Tick care tasks done, Send sensor readings, See what is due. Choose at least one.
- Press Create token.
- The token is shown only once. Press Copy and put it into the device. The dialog also shows the Home Assistant example with the token filled in.
Each device row shows its status (Active, Revoked or Expired), a hint of its token, when it was last used, when it expires if unused, and how many care entries it is linked to.
Choose the care entries #
Press Care entries… on the device and tick the care reminders (from what is due in the next 30 days) the device may see and tick done.
Tokens #
- New token replaces the token. The old one stops at once; put the new one in the device.
- Revoke stops the device at once, together with its webhooks. This cannot be undone; add a new device instead.
Listing and revoking always work, also after Premium ends, so you can clean up.
Webhooks #
Press Add webhook and give an https:// address. When a linked care task is due, BreedMap sends a signed message to that address. The address must be reachable from the internet (for Home Assistant, a cloud link or your own reverse proxy); private addresses are refused. The webhook's signing secret is shown once. Each webhook row shows whether its last call was OK or failed.
Readings #
Readings a device sends show on the item page under Readings. Raw readings are kept for 30 days, then as hourly averages for the life of the item.
Home Assistant example #
Home Assistant example shows a ready configuration snippet (a secret and two REST commands: mark a task done, send a reading). Press Copy to copy it. The example is a starting point; other systems can call the same endpoints with the device token.
