Create a project

A project holds your items and the card they share; make one from the "New project" tile in Private.

A project is a set of items, for example one species, one line or one collection, together with the card (the fields) you fill in for them. Every item of a project uses the project's card. An item is always made inside a project, so this is the first thing to do.

Before you start #

  • Be signed in. Signed out, "Private" only shows "Sign in to see your data".
  • The project is made in the workspace you are in. The header and the user menu show which one.
  • In a shared (family or company) workspace your role must allow creating projects. Otherwise the New project tile is not shown.

Steps #

  1. Go to Private and press the New project tile. It is always the first tile in the project list; on a wide screen it is also the first row of the tree on the left.
  2. Step 1, Name: type the project name. Optionally find the species in the Search species (scientific or common name) field under "Species" (see Search), or pick a quick choice under Or start quickly. The species or the quick choice suggests a card.
  3. Step 2, Card: choose a card from Ready cards (Plant, Mushroom culture, Animal, Brew batch or Blank card), My templates or Shared with me.
  4. Step 3, Fields: untick the fields you do not need, rename them, or press + Add field (Text, Number, Date or Yes / no).
  5. Press Create project. Creating the project also adds its first item, ready to fill in.

Classification #

A project can be classified from kingdom down to species, breed, cultivar or strain. Type a common or scientific name, pick a match and the levels above it fill in by themselves. You can stop at any level. If the name is not found, add it under the deepest level you know; it is shown as user-added until it is checked. Details on how the species search works: Search.

Other ways to start a project #

  • From an item page: Start another project….
  • From a file: in New project choose Import from a file… to bring in a BreedMap backup or a CSV file (see Import data).
