Free is a full account with limits on how much you can keep and link. Nothing is ever deleted because of a limit.
Items: 50 in total #
You can have 50 items in your account, across all your projects (demo projects do not count). Item 51 and later are still created and kept, but they become read-only at once: they stay visible, you can still switch them between Private and Public or delete them, but you cannot edit them. A paid plan, or deleting items down to 50, unlocks them again.
An import past 50 items also goes ahead; the items over the limit are read-only.
Linked items: 50 in total #
You can link 50 items in total as parents or children (an item counts once, however many links it has). After that, adding a parent or child link is refused until you have a paid plan or remove links. There is no limit on how many children or parents one item has, and no limit on generations in your own account.

Messages to friends and contacts have no limit on any plan.
The same on every plan #
These are not plan limits; they apply to Free and paid plans alike:
- 2 GB of storage per account and 50 files per item.
- Photos up to 10 MB; videos up to 30 MB and 20 seconds; documents up to 20 MB.
- 5 saved logins per device.
- 20 other-language species lookups per person per day (normal search keeps working).
- A hidden safety limit of 5 exports per day.
When a paid plan ends #
If a paid plan ends, items above the Free limits become read-only in the same way: they stay visible, can be switched Private or Public or deleted, and are unlocked again by a paid plan. Your data is never deleted when a licence ends.
