The card is the list of fields an item shows: Text, Number, Date or Yes / no, each with an optional unit, minimum and maximum, and a way of entering values (free text, a drop-down of your own values, or a shared list). Every item of a project uses the same card. A template is a saved card you can reuse for new projects.
Before you start #
- Open the item: Private > the project > the item's tile.
- To change the card (Edit fields) your role must allow changing the project's fields. Fields your role may not write are shown read-only.
The three modes on an item page #
The toolbar on an item page has three modes:
- View: read only.
- Fill in values: type the values. They save by themselves; the toolbar says "Nothing to save. Values save by themselves." Dates use the form YYYY-MM-DD or Pick a date.
- Edit fields: change the project's card.
Edit fields #
- Switch to Edit fields.
- Press + Add field, or change or delete a field. Changes are a draft until you save them.
- Press Save card (the diskette icon).
Things to know:
- The card belongs to the project, so a change applies to every item of the project.
- Deleting a field removes it from every item. Values already written stay in each item's History.
- A field's type cannot change after it is made. You can change its name, unit, minimum, maximum, how values are entered, Required, and Show on the dashboard (a line under each item in the item list).
- Save card as template… saves the card to My templates for new projects.
Templates & fields page #
Open Settings (the gear icon) > Templates & fields. It has the tabs Cards, Fields, Borrow and Labels.
- Cards: duplicate a ready card to My templates (Duplicate to My templates), make a New template, and edit, share or delete your own templates.
- Fields: your fields and Shared lists, saved lists of values (for example colours) that fields can use.
- Borrow: cards, fields and lists other people share with you or with everyone. Borrowing gives you your own copy. Update from original refreshes the copy when the original changed; values already written in your items are kept.
- Labels: label templates for QR labels. Designing your own labels needs a paid plan; the ready-made labels work on every plan.
