An item is one individual: a plant, culture, animal, brew batch or other organism. It has a name, a generation, a status, values for the card's fields, photos, a care log and links to parents and offspring.
Before you start #
- An item is always made inside a project, so you need a project first: Create a project. Creating a project already adds its first item.
- Be signed in. In a shared workspace your role must allow adding items.
Steps #
- Go to Private and open the project: press its tile (on a wide screen, its name in the tree on the left).
- In the project, press the New item tile. It is always the first tile in the project's item list. It is not shown when your role cannot add items, when the project is read-only, or when several projects are selected at once.
- The Add item wizard opens with five steps: Name, Relation, Species, Fields and Review.
- Name: a short code (for example K7M2QX) is ready as the item name. Keep it or type your own name. The short code stays the item's code either way and is printed on its QR label.
- Relation: how the item was generated. Unknown or none means no parent link: the item starts a line. Otherwise pick a relation with one parent or two parents and choose Parent 1 and Parent 2 (or Parent). Two-parent relations are cross and graft; one-parent relations are sport, induced mutation, gene edit, clone and subculture.
- Species: Same as the project, or Another species for this item and find it with the species search (see Search). When the project has no species yet, the choices read Not set (like the project) and Choose a species, and you can tick Also use it as the project's Classification.
- Fields: fill in what you know now. Everything is optional and can be changed later.
- Review the summary and finish with Add item.
Short codes #
Every item gets a short visible code. Codes leave out 0/O and 1/I so they are easy to read from a label. Scanning the item's QR label opens the item.
Offspring #
To add a child of an item you already have, open that item and press + Add child. The new item gets this item as a parent. To link two items that both exist already, use Link existing. Both are explained in Link items.
Free plan #
Free includes 50 items in total in the account, across all projects. Items beyond the first 50 are still created but become read-only: they stay visible and are not deleted. A paid plan, or deleting items, unlocks them.
