Kid accounts and guardians

How a child under 15 gets an account inside a family, what guardians can and cannot do, and what a kid account cannot use.

You must be 15 or older to create your own BreedMap login. A younger child can only have a kid account inside a family, added by a parent or guardian. Sign-up says so: "A kid account is created by a parent or guardian from inside a family account, so it is not offered here."

Before you start #

You are the main admin of a family (see Family workspace and seats), signed in and online.

Add a kid #

  1. Open "User info" menu > "Licence admin" > "Family members" > "Create kid account…".
  2. Use "Add an existing kid account by ID…": type the Kid account ID, then pick the kid's birth date.

The kid is added and the message "Kid added. Free kid seats are filled in joining order." appears. The licence includes 2 kid seats; when there are more kids than kid seats, the newest waits for the next free seat. "Move kid seat…" gives a seat from one kid to another; only the seat moves, the accounts and data stay as they are.

Guardians #

A kid has up to 2 guardians, both adults of the same family. The first guardian adds the second with "Add a second guardian…"; the other adult accepts, and from then on both are equal. Guardians see a kid's name, age and status in "Licence admin", and never a kid's items. A guardian can never change or delete a kid's items or data. The app says it plainly: "Your projects and items are yours. Your guardians can never delete or change them."

Messages sent to a kid go to all of the kid's guardians instead ("To the guardians of <kid>").

What a kid account cannot do #

  • No Messages (the entry is missing from the user menu) and no sending or receiving of messages.
  • No linking of devices.
  • No email, push or digest notices.
  • A limited seat: no approvals, commenting, public profile or buying; publishing needs the family admin's permission.
  • Export and import of the kid's data can only be done by the kid, never by a guardian.

Plan limits are the same as for any seat: a kid with a kid seat has Premium rights in the family workspace; without a seat the Free limits apply. There are no kid-specific item, link or storage numbers.

What a kid sees #

Under "User info" menu > "Family account" the kid sees "Your family account" with "Your guardians" and the licence that covers them. The kid sees only their guardians there, not the other family members.

Leaving and growing up #

A kid can be removed from the family only from age 15 ("Remove (from 15)"). Until then they leave only with the Leave button or a move to another family that both guardians approve ("Move to another family…", which needs the other family's Family ID; the kid's items move with the kid). When a family is dissolved, kids 15 or older become normal Free accounts; younger kids stay kid accounts and a guardian has 30 days to place them.

From the draft Terms and Privacy Policy: the guardian exercises the child's data protection rights until the child turns 15, and the account then becomes a normal account after a notice 30 days before, unless the holder chooses to stay under the family licence. See Terms of Service: plans, payments and messages.
