A family is a shared workspace for a household, for hobby use only. A person can be in only one family at a time. Everyone keeps their own Personal workspace and data; the family gets no access to it.
Before you start #
Be signed in and online. You need an email address you can open: the family is only created when you approve it from an email.
Create a family #
- Open the workspace chip in the header (or "My account" > Workspace > "Switch") to open "Workspaces", then "Family" > "Create a family…".
- Name it (for example "Your name + Family") and press "Send approval email".
- Open the email and press Approve. Nothing is made until you do; the link works for 72 hours. If it ran out, ask for a new email from the same place.
The new family is empty, with you as main admin, and has no licence until the BreedMap team adds one. Until then everyone in it stays on Free. One person can create at most 5 families and companies in total, and at most 3 in an hour.
Family ID #
Every family has a unique ID such as FAM-8H2M-31PC, shown at the top of "Licence admin" ("Copy"). Names can repeat, IDs never do. An invitation shows the ID so you can check who invites you. Knowing the ID alone never lets anyone in: to join with it, use "Ask to join with a Family ID" in "Workspaces" > "Family", and the main admin must accept.
Invite people #
In "Licence admin" > "Family members": "Invite adult…" by email, and choose whether they join as "Adult (full seat)" (the second adult seat) or "Limited member (relative)" (a limited kid-type seat). The person accepts in "Workspaces" > "Invitations" with their own account and keeps all their own items and data. A parent who joins can bring their own kid along.
Seats #
The Family licence includes 2 adults and 2 kids: two full adult seats (Premium), while everyone else (kids and relatives) has a limited kid-type seat. Extra members cost extra; the Licence page shows the prices.
The main admin appoints seats from a member's Actions menu in "Licence admin": "Give a seat…", "Move seat…" (or "Move kid seat…"), "Make second adult" and "Remove…". Only the seat moves, never the account or its data. Every move is logged and how often a seat can move is limited.
A limited seat has no approvals, messaging, commenting, public profile or buying, and publishing needs the family admin's permission. For kids, see Kid accounts.
Main admin #
"Hand over the main admin role" > "Hand over…": the second adult becomes main admin when they accept. "Make second adult" gives a member the second full seat.
Leave, remove, dissolve #
- "Leave family account…": you become a normal Free account and keep your items and data.
- "Remove from family" (Actions > "Remove…") does the same for a member; the seat returns to the reserve pool. A kid can be removed only from age 15.
- "Dissolve…": everyone becomes an individual and keeps their own data. Adults become Free, kids 15 or older become normal Free accounts, younger kids stay kid accounts and a guardian has 30 days to place them. The licence runs to the end of the paid period.
