Sign out, delete local data, delete account

What each of the three does, what stays and what goes, and how account deletion works in the app today.

Three different things, from the mildest to the final one.

Sign out #

"User info" menu > "Sign out", then "Sign out" in the "Sign out?" dialog. Your projects and items stay on this device, hidden until you sign in again. Nothing is removed from the server.

On a shared or borrowed device, use "Sign out and delete local data…" in the same dialog instead: it signs you out and runs the local data deletion below.

To sign out another device, use "Signed-in devices" in Security or the Sign out section at the bottom of "My account". See Security.

Delete local data (this device) #

"User info" menu > "Delete local data". It works signed in and signed out, and always takes three steps: the dialog "Delete the local data on this device?" ("Continue"), then "Do you REALLY want to delete the data?" ("Yes, delete everything"), then the confirmation "Local data deleted".

  • It removes everything BreedMap keeps on this device: all projects, items, pictures and unsent changes, and the remembered sign-in addresses. The dialog shows how many changes have not reached the server: they are lost for good if you continue, so sync first if you want to keep them.
  • Your data on the server is not touched. What was synced comes back when you sign in and sync again.
  • Your look settings (theme, colours, layout) and this device's name stay.
  • Signed in, you stay signed in: the same workspace is opened again and synced at once, so its data downloads again without the unsent changes. To also sign out, use "Sign out and delete local data…" from the "Sign out" dialog.

Delete account #

This deletes your login and your profile. It cannot be undone.

Before you start: be signed in and online. If you want to keep your items, export them first ("My account" > "Data & storage" > "Export my data").

  1. "User info" menu > "My account" > "Archive or delete" > "Delete account…".
  2. In "Delete your account?", type DELETE in "Type DELETE to confirm" and press "Delete account".
  3. If your sign-in is older than 10 minutes, confirm it is you with a code (from your authenticator app or your email).

What happens:

  • Your name, email address, birth date, address, card values, photo and @handle are removed. Your password, authenticator app, passkeys, linked Google login and old email addresses are removed, every device is signed out, and your follows are deleted. A confirmation email goes to your old address.
  • Your user ID stays, so nothing else breaks: items you published stay public and show "Deleted user" as their owner, your entries in shared workspaces show "Former member", and in Messages you are shown as "Left BreedMap".
  • The workspaces you worked in, their items, lineage, photos and care history are not deleted. In a family or company they stay with the family or company. Your Personal workspace's items stay in a workspace without an owner, so other people's links to them do not break.
  • To have specific photos or text removed as well, write to [email protected] (your GDPR right of erasure).

Not available yet #

  • "Archive account" (hide your profile and items without erasing) is shown under "Archive or delete" as coming later.
  • Automatic deletion after 12 months without a sign-in, with warning emails 30, 14 and 1 day before, is described in the draft Privacy Policy but is not switched on yet. Signing in cancels a pending deletion ("Welcome back, your account is active again and will not be deleted").
