Export your data

Make a password-locked full backup (ZIP) or a CSV file of your items, projects or whole workspace.

An export is a file you download: either a full backup for keeping or moving your data, or a CSV spreadsheet for Excel and other spreadsheet apps. Keep your own backups: BreedMap is in beta, and beta data may be reset or deleted.

Before you start #

  • Be signed in and online.
  • Kid accounts export only their own items.

Steps #

  1. Start the export from one of these places:
    • User info menu (your picture) > My account > Data & storage > Export my data > Export… (the whole workspace).
    • Right-click an item (long-press on a phone) > Export….
    • A project in the tree on the left > Export project….
    • Tick items in a project > Export….
  2. Pick the file type:
    • Full backup (ZIP): items, lineage, project settings, care log and history. Tick Include photos and files or leave it unticked for a smaller file.
    • CSV only: one small spreadsheet file with items, parents and field values. No photos, no settings. For Excel or other spreadsheet apps.
  3. Press Start export. It can take a few minutes and you may close the page: you get an email and a notification when the file is ready. Find it again in My account > Data & storage.
  4. Open the export, press Download file, and save the password shown in the app (Copy) together with the file.

The password and the 3-hour window #

  • The ZIP is locked with a strong password that the app shows you. The download link and the password work for 3 hours only. Then the file is deleted and nobody can show the password again. Make a new export if you need one.
  • Open the ZIP with 7-Zip, WinRAR, Keka or a similar app. The built-in Open and Extract in Windows do not support this kind of password.

Limits #

  • Free: 10 item exports a week, 5 project exports a month and 1 workspace export a month. Paid plans have no plan limit. A run counts as soon as you start it, even if you never download the file.
  • Demo projects cannot be exported.

Who can export what #

  • The workspace owner exports the whole workspace.
  • Other members export only the items they made, with their own photos and care log entries.
  • In a company workspace only its owner may export.
  • Other people's items reached through links are never included.
  • Bringing a backup or CSV back in: Import data.
  • For a copy of your personal data you can also write to [email protected] (your GDPR right of access).
