Terms of Service: summary

A plain-words summary of the draft Terms of Service (v2.7): what they are, your content and the licence you grant, data use, rules, reporting and law.

This page summarises the draft Terms of Service, version 2.7 (last updated 29 October 2026). The Terms are a draft and not yet in force; they may still change. Where this summary and the document differ, the document prevails. This is not legal advice. Plans, payments, refunds, family and kid accounts and messages are on Terms of Service: plans, payments and messages.

What the Terms are #

The Terms are the agreement between you and BreedMap. You accept them by creating an account or using the service; sign-up asks you to tick them before "Create my login", and after a material change the app asks you to accept them again. English only; the English version is binding. The Privacy Policy and the price list form part of the Terms.

Accounts #

You must be at least 15 to create an account and you give your full birth date at sign-up. An account that is not used for 12 months may be deleted, with warnings 30 days, 14 days and one day before; signing in keeps it active (see Delete your account). Content made inside a shared workspace stays there when a member leaves.

Beta #

BreedMap starts as a free beta. Access to the beta, and to publishing during the beta, is by invitation only. Beta data may be reset, migrated or deleted. Premium switches, price lists and "coming later" banners shown in the beta are previews, not offers or promises.

Your content and the licence you grant #

  • You keep ownership of your content. Content is private by default; publishing is your choice, and published content can be seen by anyone, also without an account, and may be indexed by search engines.
  • A retracted item is shown to others only as "withdrawn". Links and lineage relationships to and from it stay, and are not removed by retracting, removing items or deleting an account.
  • You grant BreedMap a broad licence to use your content: worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, transferable and sublicensable, including for operating, developing, improving and promoting the service. It survives deletion of content and of your account.
  • For published content, other people get a licence to view it within the service only, unless you choose another licence offered in the service.
  • You confirm that you have the rights to what you upload.

Use of data #

BreedMap may process data for operating and developing the service, research, statistics, publication and commercial purposes, including by automated means and artificial intelligence; this is a condition of using the service. Message content is excluded. When you delete your account, the data that relates strictly to you as a person is deleted; items, lineage, links and item photos are kept. See Delete your account.

Backups #

Keep your own backups. Data loss may occur, and BreedMap has no obligation to store or back up content. Export functions, where offered, come without guarantees. See Export your data.

Not allowed #

In short: breaking the law (including rules on controlled substances, protected species, plant health, biosecurity and CITES), unlawful or abusive content, other people's personal data without a lawful basis, revealing locations of protected or valuable organisms in a harmful way, offering or trading organisms or products (BreedMap has no marketplace), impersonation, malware, scraping or bulk downloading outside permitted interfaces, and getting around limits or security. Unsolicited, repeated, bulk, advertising or automated messages are not allowed either.

Reporting content and objecting #

Report illegal or infringing content to [email protected], which is also the single point of contact under the EU Digital Services Act. Include the URL of the content, why it is illegal or infringing, your name and email address, and a good-faith statement. If BreedMap removes or restricts your content or account, you can object by email within six months of the decision, giving your reasons.

Which law applies #

Finnish law and applicable EU law, with the courts of Finland, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
