📜History | The Bichon Frisé was brought to France from Italy during the Renaissance. It resembled a very small Barbet and was named 'barbichon', later shortened to 'bichon'. In the 17th and 18th centuries, these little dogs were depicted by renowned painters, accompanying kings, nobles, and other notable figures. The breed regained popularity under Napoléon III, known at that time as the 'Ténériffe'. It almost disappeared after the two world wars but was revived by passionate French and Belgian breeders. |
